The President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, who is on an official visit to the country. The National Anthems of Cyprus and Qatar were then played and later the President of the Republic and the Emir of Qatar attended a one-to-one meeting, which was followed by extended talks between the delegations of the two countries.
Among the issues discussed during the talks were developments in the Middle East, including the Republic of Cyprus' initiative to establish a maritime corridor for the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza, the current situation in the Cyprus problem, bilateral relations, as well as energy and investment issues.
At noon, President Christodoulides will attend a lunch hosted by the Emir of Qatar in his honour.
Earlier this morning, President Christodoulides had a meeting with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
A Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technology was also signed at the Ministry of Education in Doha.
The President of the Republic is accompanied in Doha by the Deputy Minister to the President Mrs. Irene Piki, the Ambassador of the Republic to Qatar Mr. Nicholas Manolis, the Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President Mrs. Marilena Raouna and the Deputy Government Spokesman Mr. Yiannis Antoniou.
