[PIO] The President of the Republic met with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh

The common will to further strengthen bilateral relations between Cyprus and Saudi Arabia was expressed during today's meeting of the President of the Republic Mr. President Nicos Anastasiades met with the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin al Saud, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, in Riyadh, where President Anastasiades paid an official visit.

The President of the Republic arrived at the Palace in the early afternoon, where he was officially received by the Crown Prince, while a military procession paid tribute and the national anthems of the two countries were played.

The President of the Republic was accompanied by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry Natasha Pilidou, Deputy Minister to the President Kyriakos Kousios and Deputy Government Spokesperson Niobi Parisinou.

In her statements after the meeting, Ms Parishinou said that "the President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades was warmly received today at the Palace in Riyadh by the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

During the meeting and the lunch that followed, President Anastasiades discussed with the Prince the situation in Ukraine and how developments are taking shape at the global level, as well as issues related to the current situation in the Cyprus issue and the Eastern Mediterranean, issues related to the energy sector such as the construction of the Eurasia Interconnector, and issues related to the strengthening of bilateral relations in all sectors.

Both sides expressed their strong will to strengthen cooperation on tourism issues through the enhancement of connectivity between the two countries, while issues concerning the investment opportunities provided by Cyprus and Saudi Arabia were also discussed.

The President of the Republic extended an invitation to the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia to visit Cyprus, an invitation which was accepted by the Prince, who noted his intention to visit Cyprus as soon as possible.

We should also mention that the Crown Prince expressed his country's thanks to the Republic of Cyprus for its support to Saudi Arabia for hosting EXPO 2030.

It is worth noting that the meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, where both sides expressed their willingness to upgrade the relations between Cyprus and Saudi Arabia at a strategic level."
