[PIO] The President of the Republic laid wreaths at the monuments of the heroes of the Republic

The President of the Republic Mr.Nicos Christodoulides today paid tribute to the heroes of the Republic, on the occasion of October 1, the anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus.

At 8 am, President Christodoulides, accompanied by the Ministers of Labour and Defence, as well as the Minister of National Defence of Greece, the Ambassador of Greece to Cyprus and the leadership of the National Guard, laid a wreath at the statue of Archbishop Makarios III, the first President of the Republic of Cyprus.

On behalf of the Hellenic Republic, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikos Dendias, also laid a wreath.

Afterwards, the President of the Republic went to the Prisoners' Memorial, where he laid a wreath.

Subsequently, President Christodoulides went to the Monument of the Resistance fighters, in the Presidential Palace Park, where the ceremony was held and then, accompanied by the members of the Council of Ministers, the President of the Republic laid a wreath.

Later today, the President of the Republic will greet the military parade held on the occasion of the anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the President of the Republic, together with his wife Mrs Philippa Karseras Christodoulides, will host a reception for members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps at noon.
