[PIO] The President of the Republic had meetings with the President of Italy and the Prime Minister of Italy

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Nicos Christodoulides, met tonight with the President of Italy, Mr Sergio Mattarella, at the Presidential Palace in Rome. The President of the Republic arrived at the Presidential Palace, where he was received by the President of Italy, while a military contingent paid tribute.

During the meeting that followed, the President of the Republic invited President Mattarella to visit Cyprus during the celebrations for the anniversary of the accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the European Union (EU), which will be the first visit by the President of Italy to Cyprus.

President Christodoulides praised the contribution of President Mattarella, noting that he is a distinguished European personality. He stressed that, in these difficult times, Mr Mattarella's personality and role gives hope to Europe. He noted that "2024 marks the 20th anniversary of Cyprus' accession to the EU which is the most historic, the most important moment in the history of the Republic of Cyprus and I take this opportunity to invite you to Cyprus during the celebrations of this anniversary. At the same time it will be the first visit of the President of Italy to the Republic of Cyprus", President Christodoulides said.

After the meeting with President Mattarella, the President of the Republic went to the Prime Minister's Palace, where he was received by the Prime Minister of Italy, Mrs. Giorgia Meloni, while a military procession paid tribute.

This was followed by a meeting between the President of the Republic and Mrs Meloni in the presence of members of the delegations of the two countries.
