The Cypriot Government will continue to work for the further upgrading and strengthening of the maritime sector in Cyprus, President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides said yesterday.
Addressing the opening reception of the "Maritime Cyprus 2023" conference in Limassol, the President of the Republic said, among other things, that the conference has established itself as one of the most important conferences in the global shipping sector, noting that this year's conference is even more upgraded.
He added that "the shipping sector is very important for Cyprus, a country with a long maritime history. Today, Cyprus is a full-fledged, dynamic maritime centre combining a distinguished and quality register with a high level of safety, as well as a shipping industry renowned for its excellent quality services.
The President of the Republic also stressed the Government's commitment to work for the further development and strengthening of the maritime sector in Cyprus, providing the appropriate framework for its sustainable development.
Finally, President Christodoulides presented the "Personality of Cyprus Shipping" award to Mr. George Prokopiou, shipowner, noting that the honoree is a globally distinguished personality for his achievements in international shipping.
