The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Anita Demetriou, held a meeting today with the State Aid Control Commissioner, Mrs Stella Michailidou. During the meeting, the State Aid Control Supervisor informed the Speaker of the House of Representatives on how her Office operates and the role it plays in ensuring compliance at national level with European legislation governing state aid. Ms Michaelidou informed in particular the President of the Parliament about the participation of the Office of the Comptroller in the technical committee of the Recovery and Resilience Fund and its close cooperation with the competent ministries and authorities in the Republic, in order to ensure the proper implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan within the timeframes set.

The Speaker assured that the Parliament as an institution will stand by the initiatives and efforts of the Office of the Comptroller to ensure that the legal framework on State aid is adhered to whenever necessary. The President reiterated the obligation of the executive to complete public consultation with the Controller's Office in relation to State aid bills before they are tabled in Parliament, so that the legislature can also carry out its work expeditiously. Ms. Demetriou further stressed the importance that the House of Representatives itself attaches to meeting the timelines associated with the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
