[PIO] The President of the House of Representatives received representatives of the OEB

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Anita Demetriou, held a meeting today, Monday 28 February 2022, with representatives of the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB), during which the challenges and problems facing the Cypriot economy at a time of pandemic and escalating Ukrainian crisis were discussed. In this regard, the President of the OEB briefed the Speaker of the Parliament on the major issues of concern to the Federation, including the need to take immediate measures to mitigate the impact on the Cypriot economy of the imposition of sanctions against Russia due to the invasion of its military forces in Ukraine, the continuing increase in fuel prices, as well as the need to speed up the adoption of the bills on judicial reform which are pending before the competent committee.

For her part, the Speaker of the Parliament noted that it is necessary to take measures to strengthen the economy, stressing at the same time the need to address the challenges in relation to the new facts created in the Cypriot economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis. He also assured the OEB representatives that, within the framework of its powers, it will take every possible initiative to solve the problems facing the OEB, contributing to the efforts of the Federation in support of the Cypriot economy.
