President of the Hellenic Republic Nicos Anastasiades sent today a message of condolence on the death of the former President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias, on the electronic book of condolences opened by the Embassy of Greece in Nicosia.

In his message, President Anastasiades said the following. Karolos Papoulias, a man of rare ethos, prudent, rational and of great courtesy, served Greece for decades, honouring it with high acts of exemplary loyalty.

These characteristics, together with his abilities, consistency, perseverance and unfailing dedication to duty, distinguished his presence in all the positions he assumed and subsequently sealed with his invaluable contribution.

For us, the Hellenism of Cyprus, he was consciously a steadfast friend, sympathizer and supporter of the struggles for the vindication and reunification of our country.

Feeling deeply grateful to him, his legacy as a true patriot and tireless defender of democracy and peace, will guide our steps on his path in fulfilling our own duty towards Hellenism.

Your eternal memory, President."
