A delegation of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs and the Cyprus-Serbia Friendship Group in the House of Representatives, consisting of the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Mr. Harris Georgiades (Head) and the Members Mr. Mario Mavridis (Deputy Chairman), Mr. George Loukaidis, Mr. George Koukoumas and Mr. Christos Orfanidis.
The delegation was received today by the Deputy Prime Minister, responsible for Foreign Policy and Security and Foreign Minister of Serbia, Mr. Ivica Dacic.
Mr. Georgiades praised the fraternal ties that link Cyprus and Serbia and expressed gratitude for Serbia's stance on the Cyprus problem, underlining the common commitment of the two countries to international law, which determines their approach to issues of major importance. He also reiterated the clear position of the Republic of Cyprus on the Kosovo issue and Serbia's European perspective.
Mr. Dacic expressed his appreciation for Cyprus' unwavering support for the Kosovo issue and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, and reiterated his country's firm position in the efforts to reach a solution to the Cyprus problem in accordance with international law. He provided an update on the situation in northern Kosovo in recent days.
The meeting also noted the important prospects for further deepening cooperation between Cyprus and Serbia in the fields of economy, culture, education and sports.
Finally, the Cypriot MPs attended a lunch hosted by the President of the Serbian-Cypriot Friendship Group at the National Assembly of Serbia, Mrs. Pantić Pilja and a dinner hosted by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Stefanović, in honour of the delegation, in the presence of members of both committees.
