[PIO] The Minister of Justice and Public Security goes to Lille for the work of the Informal Justice and Home Affairs Council of the EU

The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mrs.Stefi Drakou, will leave tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd February 2022, for Lille, France, where she will participate in the work of the Informal Justice and Home Affairs Council of the European Union, which will take place there on 3rd and 4th February 2022, respectively.

In the context of the first Council under the French Presidency, Ministers are expected to hold a general policy debate on the strengthening of the Schengen area through the adoption of relevant tools and measures that will contribute to a more effective implementation of the acquis and to the creation of a mechanism to respond immediately to threats in times of crisis to the single area of free movement.

In addition, measures to address the growing trend across Europe for the use of hate speech on the internet will be examined, by strengthening cooperation between telecommunications service providers and judicial authorities of the Member States.

In parallel, the Ministers will exchange views on the introduction of a pan-European system for tracing missing children. The aim of the discussion is to strengthen cross-border cooperation and to establish common standards of action by national law enforcement authorities in cases of child abduction.

The session will conclude with an examination of the issue of the recognition of decisions on parenthood between member states in the context of the strategy on the rights of the child.

The Minister returns to Cyprus on Saturday 5 February 2022.
