The Minister of Justice and Public Order Ms Anna Koukkidi-Prokopiou had a meeting today, Friday, 8 September 2023, with the Commissioner for the Protection of Children's Rights Ms Despo Michaelidou, during which issues of juvenile delinquency were discussed.
In particular, the regulatory framework concerning the creation of a suitable place of detention for children was discussed, as well as individual institutions of the new legislation establishing a new modern child-friendly justice system.
This system includes, in particular, child-centred approaches, methods and institutions for the management of juvenile delinquency with a focus and top priority on serving the interests of juvenile offenders and the need to support and reform them for the benefit of themselves and society.
The Minister thanked the Commissioner for her very important contribution to the preparation of the Child Detention Centre Regulations, as well as for her long-standing contribution to the establishment and effective implementation of the child-friendly justice system.
