The areas of Yermasoyia in Limassol and the houses affected by the severe weather phenomena that occurred at dawn today were visited by Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou. Mr. Ioannou was briefed by the Prefect of Limassol and the Mayor of Yermasogeia on the material damage, and then went to the affected areas to inspect the damage.

Speaking after the meeting at the Yermasogeia Town Hall, Mr. Ioannou was asked if we know the number of damaged houses. Minister said that damage is currently being recorded, noting that all roads have been cleared and it is expected, according to the information from the AEC, that the electricity supply will be restored within two hours. Mr Ioannou said that the crews of the Provincial Administration and the Municipality of Germasogeia are already recording the damage. "Phone numbers have been given which can be contacted. For those whose homes are so damaged that they cannot stay inside, they can contact the telephones and a hotel has been arranged to transport them," he said.

He also conveyed the assurance that where and when compensation can be given based on specific data (e.g. approved building sites, etc.), the State will stand by to repair the damage. As he stressed, the priority is the completion of the registration of the damages, the cleaning of the houses and the housing of the people.

Subsequently, Mr. Ioannou thanked the Prefect of Limassol and the Commander of the Civil Defence, as well as the staff of the two Departments of the Ministry, who from the first moment were at the places affected with crews, as well as the Mayor of Yermasogeia for the valuable contribution and assistance given from the first hour.

For his part, the Mayor of Germasogeia Mr. Kyriakos Xydias thanked the Prefect of Limassol, the Civil Defence, the Police and the Fire Brigade and all the Services that were on the spot from the first moment to deal with the situation and restore the damage. "We have restored the operation of the road network. We are pleased to inform residents that, in addition to two local problems, the power supply will be restored within two hours. The last thing that remains is to record the damage and help people with the property damage to homes and commercial establishments," he noted."

Asked about this, he said about six homes were affected. He also said that in his communication with residents, they told him that their desire is to repair the damage so that they can stay in their homes tonight. However, he said, if this is not possible, arrangements have been made for them to be accommodated in a hotel.

Asked if by some miracle the worst was avoided, Mr. Xydias said that, fortunately, there was only property damage and one injury.

Finally, Mr. Xydias thanked the Minister of Interior for his prompt response and his presence in Germasoyia.
