A series of meetings with all the Provisional Advisory Councils (PACs) of the Provincial Self-Government Organizations (POAs) began today, in view of the implementation of the Local Government Reform from July 1. During the meetings, the implementation of the processes so far is reviewed, while the implementation of outstanding issues is examined. The cycle of contacts started today with the Provisional Council of the Nicosia EIA.

At today's meeting, issues related to the transfer of staff from the existing planning and building authorities to the EIA's Licensing Directorate, as well as the issues of building facilities were discussed, among others.

In his statements, the Interior Minister said that the beginning of the contacts is with the Nicosia EIA, which is on a very good way to implement the pending issues. The aim of the meetings, he said, is to get an update on the progress of the work from all the Interim Coordinating Councils.

He added that regional meetings with municipalities have also been scheduled, in a similar manner to the one held last September. The purpose is to ascertain whether what had been recorded has been implemented, so that all processes can proceed for a smooth transition to the new Local Government environment.

Finally, asked about the actions that the Ministry of Interior intends to take in cases where it will be proven that irregular certifications of citizens' data were made to move their electoral rights to other Municipalities or Communities, Mr. Ioannou said that, after the audit that will be done, there and where there are irregularities will be denounced.
