The rolling out of projects that will change the physiognomy of the city of Limassol, as well as projects for the construction of houses under the affordable housing and affordable rent plan of the Cyprus Land Development Agency (CDA), were discussed today by Interior Minister Mr. Nikos Nouris at a meeting with the Mayor of Limassol Mr. Nikos Nicolaides.
The meeting took place this morning at the Ministry of Interior, in the presence of the Director General of the CIG, Limassol Municipality Councillors and officials of the Ministry of Interior.
In statements to media representatives, Mr. Nouris said that the meeting with the Mayor and the Limassol Municipal Council was held to review the projects underway or being rolled out in the Limassol Municipality. He added that it concerns very important projects.
The major project for the construction of houses under the affordable housing and affordable rent plan is in the process of being rolled out, in consultation with the CMOA, as well as a number of other urban planning projects, which are expected to literally change the physiognomy of the city of Limassol, the Minister said.
He informed that the meeting was aimed at resolving the problems presented by some projects.
"I believe that a constructive discussion took place. We have addressed the specific problems and specific answers and solutions have been given," the Minister said.
He noted that "in the coming period we will continuously monitor the specific projects."
He said that being firm in the Government's position, those projects that are considered mature and those that can be run in the current year are being promoted immediately. The projects that have problems will be scheduled for next year, the minister added.
The Limassol Mayor, in his own statements, said that a number of projects concerning the Limassol Municipality, such as the affordable housing infrastructure project, were discussed with the Minister, but also urban planning projects such as the connection of Franklinos Roosevelt Avenue with the Limassol coastal road (second phase), the bypass of the centre of Agia Fyla through the construction/improvement of Andreas Papandreou Street, the buffer project of Grivas Digenis Avenue and Gladstonos Street, etc.
The Mayor described the meeting as productive, saying that decisions were taken to further advance these projects on the basis of a timetable.
