The Minister of Interior Mr. Nikos Nouris, as the Custodian of Turkish Cypriot Properties, approved the issuance of Lease Registration Certificates to 346 eligible displaced persons residing in Government Settlements and Government Self-Housing Plots, which were built on Turkish Cypriot (TC) land that was not expropriated.
Based on Regulation 4(1) of the Turkish Cypriot Properties (Grant of Lease Contracts to Displaced Persons and Other Persons) Regulations, the Department of Lands and Surveys has prepared a list of beneficiaries of displaced persons for the grant of a Lease Contract.
The grant of Lease Registration Certificates for housing purposes concerns a total of 235.5 housing units to 346 refugee beneficiaries, while by district it is as follows:
For Nicosia District: 9.5 units to 15 beneficiaries
For Limassol District: 204 units to 300 beneficiaries.
For Larnaca District: 2 units to 3 beneficiaries.
For the Paphos District: 20 units to 28 beneficiaries.
It is noted that the granting of the Lease Certificate ensures the continued occupation of the housing units by the beneficiary refugees. At the same time, the lessee acquires a lien on the T/C property, which may be transferred, inherited, mortgaged or forcibly alienated, etc.etc.
