The Minister of Interior Mr. Constantinos Ioannou today convened an Inter-Ministerial Meeting with the participation of the competent Ministers of Justice, Education, Labour, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, the Assistant Chief for Border Protection, Directors General of the Ministries/ Deputy Ministries, with the aim of coordinating to strengthen existing practices by taking additional measures for the management of migration flows.
Also present at the meeting were the Director of the Civil Registry and Migration Department, representatives of the Asylum Service, the Legal Service and other officials.
The meeting decided to establish an interdepartmental group under the coordination of the Ministry of Interior, consisting of representatives of the departments and services involved, with a mandate to find policies to prevent irregular flows and to manage the existing numbers of third country nationals.
During the meeting it was discussed that the interdepartmental group should focus, inter alia, on re-mapping the current situation and exploring additional actions in the areas of illegal employment, social benefits and school integration of children with a migrant background. In addition, it will examine policies for the social integration of those who have the right of residence in the Republic, with a focus on persons granted international protection status.
The interdepartmental group will have approximately one month to elaborate and submit a structured plan of recommendations to the Interministerial Committee for decision-making.
