Interior Minister Nikos Nouris will leave tomorrow morning for Brussels to participate in the work of the Informal Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs of the European Union.

Among other things, the Council will discuss the current situation in Ukraine, as well as the provision of humanitarian aid, both to Ukrainian refugees and to the neighbouring Member States which are currently receiving the largest number.

In the context of the Council, the Minister of Interior will co-sign with FRONTEX Executive Director Mr. Fabrice Leggeri the Operational Action Plan, which was agreed between the two sides during Mr. Leggeri's recent visit to Cyprus. The Operational Action Plan includes, inter alia, enhancing the Agency's support to the Republic of Cyprus through the secondment of additional experts in the field of returns and verification of third country nationals, the operation of regular repatriation flights with FRONTEX bearing the full costs, as well as technical support for the upgrade or development of migration and return management systems.

In addition, Mr. Nouris will have a bilateral meeting with his Belgian counterpart to coordinate the actions of the two countries in the framework of their cooperation in conducting joint operations for the return of Congolese nationals.

The Interior Minister will return to Cyprus in the afternoon of 5 March 2022.
