[PIO] The Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry visited New York for the 5th New York - Eastern Mediterranean Eco Business Summit

The Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Mr. George Papanastasiou traveled to New York, where he will participate in the Economist's 5th New York - Eastern Mediterranean Business Summit, taking place today, and will have a series of meetings, including with Mr. Geoffrey Pyatt, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Energy Resources, Mr. Geoffrey Pyatt. In addition, interviews have been arranged for the Minister with major US media, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Forbes.

Papanastasiou's contacts began yesterday, Thursday, with a meeting with the leaderships of the Cyprus-American Chamber of Commerce and the Cyprus Federation of America.

Today, the Minister will participate in two panels at the Economist's Business Summit, with the first one on business opportunities in Cyprus and Greece ("A promising narrative for prosperity and growth through business ventures") and Mr. Papanastasiou presenting the competitive advantages of our country as an international business hub, as well as the investment opportunities created in specific sectors. The second panel, which will also include Mr. Pyatt and Mr. Skrekas and the Secretary General of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, Mr. Osama Mobarez, will focus on "Energy security and supply in critical times".

During his opening remarks, the Minister will present to the participants the energy strategy of Cyprus and the initiatives undertaken by our country for the creation of the Eastern Mediterranean Energy Corridor to Europe.

Mr. Papanastasiou is also scheduled to have private meetings today with the US Assistant Secretary of State Mr. Pyatt and the Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) Mr. Ted Deutch.

Mr. Papanastasiou will depart from New York tomorrow, Saturday, April 27.
