Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry George Papanastasios is in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where he is representing Cyprus at the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which is taking place between 26 and 29 February.
During the Ministerial Conference, WTO members will seek to make progress on work on the reform of the Organisation, as well as to continue negotiations on key issues such as fisheries subsidies, agriculture and e-commerce.
WTO reform is necessary for a stable and predictable rules-based trading system that will act as a buffer against an increasingly unpredictable global economic environment.
In the margins of the Ministerial Conference, Mr. Papanastasiou also participated in the proceedings of the EU External Affairs (Trade) Council, which took place in Abu Dhabi yesterday, Sunday 25 February 2024.
