The Industrial Areas of Kokkinotrimithias and Ergaton, Nicosia District, were visited yesterday, 17 February 2021, by the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Ms Natasa Pileidou. The visits took place in the context of the Minister's contacts with the relevant associations of industrialists, in order to solve the problems they face, but also to define and implement the actions required to attract opportunities that open up prospects for transition to the green and digital economy. In this way, the competitiveness of Cypriot products will be upgraded, making them green and innovative, while the potential for further export growth will be enhanced.
The management of vacant plots in Industrial Areas, fencing and further strengthening of their security, road safety issues, parking, signage and the creation of fire zones, were some of the issues that were raised in search of solutions.
As Ms. Pileidou said while addressing the representatives of the industries, the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (MoETI) is on the side of the sector to address the challenges with the aim of immediately advancing issues to be resolved. The smooth operation of industrial areas, she pointed out, contributes to the development and modernization of industries, with benefits for the country's economy.
Regarding the issue plaguing businesses especially at this time, the electricity price increases, the Minister stressed the importance of promoting investments for energy upgrading of industrial premises, but also the installation of photovoltaic panels to reduce the need to purchase electricity.
She urged them to proceed with their studies, so that when the Ministry's sponsorship scheme for energy upgrading of businesses, with a budget of €40 million, is announced in March,
Mrs. Pilidou was accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Mr. Marios Panagidis, the Director of the Department of Industry and Technology, Mr. Christos Fotiadis and competent officials of the Department, as well as representatives of KEBE and OEB.
Mrs. Pilidou visited five industries during her tour of the two industrial areas. The A. Minas plastic bag manufacturing plant, the A.C. Nicolaou Blinds shade manufacturing plant, the Laser Graphics printing plant, Elysse Irrigation which manufactures plastic fittings for irrigation systems, and the Delorbis Pharmaceuticals manufacturing plant.
