[PIO] The Minister of Defence had a telephone conversation with his American counterpart today

Defence Minister Michael Yiorgallas had a telephone conversation today with his American counterpart Lloyd J. Austin III, at the initiative of the American Minister.

The US Secretary of Defense, placing the highest priority on the safety of US citizens as well as US forces in the region to provide humanitarian assistance to the Gaza war zone, thanked Mr. Lloyd Lloyd J. Lloyd Austin Austin. Yiorgalla for the close cooperation between the two countries, which allows the U.S. to participate seamlessly in their missions.

The two ministers also discussed the situation in Ukraine and Gaza. The US Secretary welcomed the Republic of Cyprus' firm stance on Ukraine and praised the importance of Cyprus' supportive role in the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza and Israel.

The two Ministers welcomed the ever-growing bilateral defence cooperation, which confirms the very good relations between Cyprus and the US.

Finally, Mr. Yiorgallas extended an invitation to his counterpart for an official visit to Cyprus, which the US Secretary of Defense accepted.
