The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Andreas Grigoriou and officials, today, September 25, 2023, conducted a tour of fire affected areas, which were affected by the recent fires in the mountainous Limassol District.
Mr. Xenophontos paid a visit to the Community of Akrunda, where he met with the Community Council of the Community and discussed the problems that arose after the recent fire as well as issues of concern to the Community, such as the construction of a new water reservoir and the creation of a drainage system.
He then visited the Communities of Apsia, Apsia, Korfi and Paramytha to inspect the construction of flood and erosion control works by the Water Development Department, which will be completed by the end of September. These works restrict the flow of water and contribute to avoiding flooding phenomena in blocks adjacent to the watercourses.
Finally, Mr. Xenophontos paid a visit to modern plantations in Agros. During his visit, he was shown around crops which are protected by anti-snow networks which effectively protect the plantations, since climate change has increased the frequency of extreme weather events.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment in the new year will announce a new investment measure through the CAP Strategic Plan with an increased rate of support (80% compared to 75% in the previous one) so that our farmers can protect both their crops and their income.
