The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr Maria Panayiotou, leaves today, Sunday 26 May 2024, for Brussels, where she will take part in the Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries.
The Council's proceedings, which will take place on Monday, 27 May 2024, will address issues related to the current crisis in agriculture, as well as the market situation following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Dr Panayiotou will, among other things, brief the Council on the ongoing drought in Cyprus and the adverse effects of reduced rainfall on all sectors, agriculture, livestock and the environment. At the same time, the Minister will ask the European Commission to present measures to address the consequences in order to safeguard the means of agricultural production and autonomy in food production, as well as to protect the environment.
The Minister will return to Cyprus on Tuesday afternoon, 28 May 2024.
