The logo for the 20th anniversary of Cyprus' accession to the European family was unveiled yesterday at the Presidential Palace during the dinner hosted by the President of the Republic Mr.Nikos Christodoulides in honour of the President of Germany Mr.Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is on a two-day official visit to Cyprus.
The logo, which has been created by the Press and Information Office, will be the dominant element of the visual identity of all events and activities of the Republic of Cyprus in the context of the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of its accession to the European Union (EU) on 1 May 2024.
As is evident, the logo has a modern, simple design. The left half of the design is occupied by the initials "EU" (the initials of the European Union - European Union in English) in blue, which symbolizes the dominant color of the EU flag. The right half of the design is divided into two parts. In the upper part is the number '20' and in the lower part the word 'CYPRUS' (Cyprus) in the colours of the flag of the Republic of Cyprus. The number '20' is written in orange, symbolizing the copper that was abundant on the island, while the word 'CYPRUS' is written in the green of the olive branches, symbolizing peace.
In his toast, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, referring to the twentieth anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus' accession to the EU, among other things, said: "This year we complete 20 years of the Republic of Cyprus' accession to the EU. The anniversary of this, as well as the visit of the President of Germany, is an opportunity to celebrate our European identity. To reflect on all that we have achieved together over these 20 years, strengthening our union and setting new goals for the future in order to fulfil our common vision of an even stronger and more integrated EU".
