The legal framework, consisting of three bills, for the fight against corruption was discussed at a meeting between the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mrs.Stefi Drakou, and the President and members of the independent organisation Cyprus Integrity Forum.

The CIF leadership put on the table views on the appointment of members and the powers of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority, most of which have already been adopted in the draft bill prepared by the Ministry of Public Administration.

The Minister briefed the representatives of the organisation on the developments on the issues of the appointment process of members and the powers given to the Authority.

In addition, the need for the immediate promotion of the two bills on the establishment of the Independent Authority against Corruption and on Transparency in Public Decision Making, which, together with the bill on the protection of persons who report acts of corruption, which has been passed by Parliament, create a comprehensive legal framework against corruption, was discussed.

Finally, the Minister thanked the CIF leadership for the productive exchange of views and assured them of the Ministry's continuous efforts to take the first important step towards fighting corruption and enhancing transparency in our country.
