As a result of the prosecution, the Larnaca District Court sentenced I & C HADJIYIANNAKOU (FARMS) LTD, which operates, among other things, in cow breeding, to a total fine of €11.000 for the following violations of the Minimum Safety and Health Standards (Use of Work Equipment at Work) Regulations, the Management of Safety and Health at Work Regulations and the Occupational Safety and Health Laws, which caused serious injury to one of its employees and endangered its employees and other persons:
(a) Failure to apply a safe work method during the process of removing a mass of feed that had become entangled in a feeder, resulting in her employee, while engaged in this work, placed his hand into the feeder through an opening that his employer had made in the feeder and his hand came into contact with the rotating auger that was in operation inside the feeder and suffered complete amputation of the index, middle and ring fingers of his right hand and trauma to the little finger of his right hand.
(b) Failure to provide adequate information and instructions for use regarding the feed mill work equipment, particularly the feeders and the modifications that had been made to them at the defendant's initiative, so that employees would become aware of the hazards to them and the work equipment in their immediate work environment, even if the equipment was not directly used by them.
