The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr.Petros Xenophontos, will leave today for Slovenia to participate in the Meeting of the Parties to the Barcelona Convention (COP 23), at the invitation of the Slovenian Minister of Agriculture.
The primary objective of COP 23 is to strengthen the protection of the marine and coastal environment of the Mediterranean region in the context of sustainable development. Furthermore, COP 23 will review the progress achieved during the 2022-2023 biennium, consider strategic documents and take decisions, including the Programme of Work (PoW) and the budget for the 2024-2025 biennium.
The main theme of the COP 23 Ministerial Meeting, which will take place on 7 December 2023, will be: "Green Transition in the Mediterranean: From decisions to actions", focusing on the transition from adopting plans and programmes to taking concrete action in the Mediterranean to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for present and future generations.
Afterwards, Mr. Xenophontos will depart for Brussels where he will participate in the European Union Council of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers, whose work starts on Sunday 10 December 2023.
