[PIO] The High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Namibia presented his credentials

The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Namibia, Mr. Geingob, during an official ceremony held on 19 October at the Presidential Palace in Windhoek. Nikos Christodoulides and the people of Cyprus as well as their wishes for the prosperity of the people of the country.

In a subsequent meeting, both of them referred to the very good level of relations and cooperation between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and expressed their willingness to further strengthen and intensify their relations.

The High Commissioner of Cyprus briefed President Geingob on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and on the ongoing efforts to find a just and viable solution. In this context, President Geingob expressed his country's commitment to international legitimacy and his support for efforts to find a solution in accordance with international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter.

During the conversation, President Geingob expressed his gratitude for Cyprus' contribution, historically and over time, to his country's struggle for independence. Reference was also made to the fact that both countries are members of the Commonwealth and remain committed to upholding and implementing international legitimacy in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter. It also expressed the will for further cooperation in the context of the participation of the two countries in international organizations such as the UN and the Commonwealth.

During his stay in Namibia, the High Commissioner held a series of meetings with officials of the country in the presence of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Cyprus in Namibia, Mr. Savvas Ioannou Savvas. Among others, he met with the Vice President of the country, the Minister of Labour, the Minister of Tourism and Environment, the Governor of Erongo Province and members of Parliament.
