[PIO] The High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Mauritius presented his credentials

At a ceremony held on 15 September 2023, at the Presidential Palace, Port Louis, the new High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr. Mr. Antonis Mandritis presented his credentials to President Prithvirajsing Roopun GCSK.

During the ceremony, Mr. Mandritis conveyed to President Roopun the greetings of the President of the Republic and the people of Cyprus, as well as wishes for the prosperity of the people of Cyprus.

In the private discussion that followed, both of them referred to the very good level of relations between the two countries based on mutual respect, expressing the desire for further strengthening and reinforcement of cooperation.

Subsequently, the High Commissioner of Cyprus referred to the latest developments in the Cyprus problem, as well as to the ongoing efforts to find a just and viable solution. The President of Mauritius expressed his country's commitment to international legitimacy and support for finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. He also expressed his country's gratitude for Cyprus' stance on the Chagos Archipelago issue.

During the meeting, reference was made to the fact that both countries are members of the Commonwealth and remain committed to the observance and implementation of international legitimacy, with special reference to international law and the UN Charter. In this context, the willingness of the two sides to cooperate further in international fora such as the UN and the Commonwealth was expressed.

During his stay in Mauritius, Mr Mandritis had the opportunity to meet with officials of the country including the Vice President, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Speaker of Parliament, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Maritime Affairs. He also met with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the diplomatic community, as well as economic, academic and other stakeholders in the country. Finally, he had the opportunity to meet with the small community of Cypriots residing in the country. In all meetings, the High Commissioner was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr. Ashock Gishore Ramdenee.
