The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Malawi, Mr. Lazarus Chakwera, at a ceremony held on 21 November 2023 at the Presidential Palace in the capital Lilongwe.
During the ceremony, Mr Mandritis conveyed to the President of Malawi and the people of the country the warm greetings of the President of the Republic and the people of Cyprus. President Chakwera returned the greetings, wishing all the best to the leadership and people of Cyprus.
During the meeting that followed, the good level of relations between Cyprus and Malawi was confirmed, as well as the will to further strengthen and consolidate them, both bilaterally and internationally. In this context, reference was made to the will of the two countries to further cooperation within international organisations such as the UN and the Commonwealth, with full commitment to the respect and implementation of international legitimacy.
Mr Mandritis briefed President Chakwera on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and on the ongoing efforts of our side to find a just and viable solution. President Chakwera expressed his country's support for the efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus problem in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. He also expressed gratitude for the assistance of Cyprus, especially the first President of the Republic of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios, in the struggle of the African peoples for independence. Speaker of Parliament, Members of Parliament and Ambassadors of countries accredited to Malawi.
