[PIO] The High Commissioner of Cyprus, based in Pretoria, presented his credentials in Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana

The High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus, based in Pretoria, Mr. Antonis Mandritis handed over his credentials in Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana.

In particular, at a special ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, Mr Mandritis presented his credentials to the President of the country, Mr Anthony Mandritis and Mr Botswana. Mr Mandritis then visited Mozambique, where he presented his credentials to the President of Mozambique, Mr Filipe Nyusi, at a special ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in the capital Maputa. Finally, Mr Mandritis travelled to Botswana, where he presented his credentials to Mokgweetsi President Eric Keabetswe Masisi, at a special ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in the capital Gaborone. Mandritis conveyed the cordial greetings of the President of the Republic and the people of Cyprus to the Presidents of the three countries, while in the meetings that followed, reference was made to the history of relations between these countries and Cyprus. The very good level of bilateral cooperation was also confirmed, which is based on mutual respect and the will to further consolidate and strengthen relations.

Mr Mandritis briefed his interlocutors on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and the efforts to resume talks for a just and viable solution. With regard to the Cyprus problem, the Presidents of the three countries expressed their country's commitment to international legitimacy, as well as support for efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus problem. In the context of the meetings, reference was also made to the participation of Cyprus, Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana in the Commonwealth, as well as to the countries' commitment to the observance and implementation of international legitimacy, international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

During his stay in the three countries, Mr Mandritis met with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the three countries, members of the academic and educational community, as well as economic and other stakeholders of the countries. He also met with the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Zimbabwe and with the leadership and members of the Cypriot community in the three countries.
