"All citizens of our country should have direct and equal access to quality health services, whether they are in cities or in remote and peripheral areas."
This was pointed out by the Minister of Health Dr. Popi Kanari, during a visit she made today to the Health Centre of Pyrgos Tillyria, accompanied by representatives of OKYPY and OAI.
Dr. Kanari noted that at a recent meeting held at Polis Chrysochous Town Hall, OAI was instructed to prepare and submit a study to the Ministry of Health by the end of November, in which the basic services that should be accessible to all citizens of Cyprus in hospitals and Health Centres should be defined.
This study, which will cover primary care services, outpatient care, ambulance services and emergency services, will be evaluated by the Ministry of Health. The OAI, he said, will proceed to upgrade these services in marginal and remote areas, which will be achieved through cooperation with the OCYPY, which is responsible for the operation of health centres. If necessary, he said, the private sector will also contribute to this effort.
In conclusion, he noted that it is known that the OKYPY, operates the Health Centre of Tower Tillyria using telemedicine, a fact for which the organization should be congratulated. "In any case, however, there are additional needs, which we will promote in order to ensure equitable access to the health system for the citizens of the area," Dr. Kanari added.
