A meeting with representatives of the Committee of Occupied Communities was held today by the Head of Humanitarian Affairs of Missing and Trapped Persons Ms Anna Aristotelous.
At the meeting, the Committee of Occupied Communities was represented by: Eleftherios Antoniou - President of the Union of Nicosia Communities and Chairman of the Committee, Michalis Tziortas - Commune Mayor of Flamoudi village and President of the Union of Displaced Communities of Famagusta, Dimitris Chilimintris - Mayor of Pigi, Famagusta District, Andreas Michael - Mayor of Filias, Nicosia District, George Antoniou - Mayor of Voni, Nicosia District and Androulla Grigoriou - Secretary.
During the meeting Mrs. Aristotelous informed the representatives of the Committee about the strategic planning of the Missing and Trapped Persons Service which was prepared on the basis of the Governance Programme of the President of the Republic. He also informed about the objectives and actions planned and promoted by the Service, as well as about the activities carried out, which focus on people and meeting their needs. Mrs Aristotelous also referred to the difficulties faced by our stranded and resettled fellow citizens, who live in our occupied villages and make every effort to keep them alive.
For its part, the Committee of Occupied Communities informed about its own activities, making particular reference to the churches looted by the occupation regime.
During the meeting the Head of Humanitarian Affairs of Missing Persons and Internally Displaced Persons and the Committee of Occupied Communities agreed to jointly organize a workshop which will aim to enlighten in Cyprus and abroad, and especially the Ambassadors of foreign countries in Cyprus on the issue of our missing persons and the drama of their families as well as on the problems and difficulties faced by our interned and resettled people.
