The Head of Humanitarian Affairs of Missing and Trapped Persons Ms. Anna Aristotelous had a meeting with the new Mayor of Kormakitis Mr. Antonis Solomis, whom she congratulated for his election. The meeting is part of the frequent contacts of the network of cooperation, support and communication, which has been developed and established by the Head and the Community Chief of Kormakitis, in order to improve and upgrade the living conditions of the stranded and resettled people.
During the meeting, Ms. Aristotelous informed Mr. During the meeting, Ms. Aristoritopoulos informed Ms. Solomis about actions taken in the framework of the Governance Programme concerning actions that have been implemented to improve the quality and quantity of food sent to our internally displaced persons, the resolution of the serious problem of the delay in the passage of students and elderly patients through the Agios Dometios barrier through the opening of a special lane, the decision to start the procedures for the purchase of two buses to serve the needs of students and elderly stranded and resettled in the Maronite villages and on the Karpasia peninsula, the revision of the Resettlement Plan to provide additional incentives for staying and resettlement in our occupied villages, the extension of the home care allowance to elderly couples over 75 years of age, the increase of the area of non-owned land for cultivation from 100 to 150 stairs, Resolving requests from stranded and resettled persons regarding chronic problems in their daily lives, the ongoing effort to implement training courses in cooperation with the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, the organization of educational activities and more.
The Commune Chief thanked Mrs. Aristotelous and the Government for their keen and continuous interest in the issues of stranded and repatriated Maronites, and elaborated on his suggestions and proposals to further improve their living conditions, especially the extension of facilities at the barricades throughout the year and not only during the school season.
Ms. Aristotelous said that some of the requests have already been forwarded to the relevant Ministries for consideration and assured the Commune Chief that the rest will be forwarded to the relevant Ministries and Services, because strengthening the stay of the stranded and resettled people in the occupied villages is a key priority.
This was followed by an exchange of views on other important issues in order to continuously improve the living conditions of the interned and resettled people and agreed on ways of handling new issues concerning Kormakitis and employing the people who with so many difficulties keep our occupied villages alive. It was also decided to establish monthly meetings with the Commune Chief responsible for these issues, both in the office of the Chief and on the spot at their places of residence in the occupied Kormakitis, in the context of discussion and exchange of views on important issues concerning the improvement and upgrading of the living conditions of the interned and resettled people.
Ms. Aristotelous thanked Mr. Solomis for the information and cooperation, stressing the excellent cooperation that has been developed with the Maronite community. She reiterated that, with people at the centre of the President's policy, the policy of improving and upgrading the living conditions of our interned and resettled people will continue, as well as promoting their well-being and supporting them in every way through various actions, activities and incentives.
