The Government Spokesman Mr. Konstantinos Letibiotis briefed the media at the Presidential Palace today.
In his opening statement the Spokesman said: "Tomorrow, December 20, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen will visit Cyprus. The visit of the Israeli Foreign Minister is related to the plans for the development and implementation of the Republic of Cyprus' initiative to establish a maritime corridor for the provision of humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in Gaza.
As is already known, last week a technical team from Israel visited Cyprus, where they held meetings and visited the infrastructure involved in the implementation of the initiative. The Israeli Foreign Minister will hold a meeting with Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombo in the presence of technical teams to discuss technical issues related to the initiative.
In the context of the initiative of the Republic of Cyprus, the Foreign Minister had yesterday telephone contacts with his counterparts from Britain and France, where they discussed developments in the region and the initiative of the Republic of Cyprus as it has taken shape so far.
The management of the Pentakomo Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) has been transferred since midnight to the Department of Water Development. The 14-day deadline given by the state to the contractor has expired and now the Department of Water Development (DWD) will manage the facility in this transitional stage until new contracts are prepared and tenders are invited with proper terms, specifications and procedures.
For days now, a team from DWD has been at the Pentakomo Waste Management Facility to ensure a smooth transition to the new management regime. The primary concern of TAY is to ensure that the operation of the plant continues unhindered, so as not to cause any disruption regarding the management of waste in the Municipalities and Communities of the Limassol district. The assistance of the Limassol District Development Company in the management of the Waste Management System during this transitional stage is also important.
We welcome the implementation yesterday, Monday 18 December, of the e-justice information system. The launch of the pilot operation of the new e-justice system, presented by the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy in consultation with the Cyprus Bar Association and the Supreme Court, is a very important step towards the digital transformation of our country and the reform of the judicial system. Its final solution is expected in February 2024.
The Government places the reform of the judicial system very high on its priorities and promotes the implementation of reforms aimed at building a modern and fast justice system, including the introduction of information technologies.
It is our conviction that as a State we have a duty to build a justice system that will facilitate the execution of the mission of all those who serve the law. A system of justice that, first and foremost, serves the public interest, works for the benefit of citizens, and is not challenged by society.
The long-awaited implementation of the e-Justice system now places our country in an era of substantial reform of the justice system with the ultimate goal of faster administration of justice."
