The General Accounting Office of the Republic completed the planned series of workshops in all cities, having successfully held training workshops on procurement and contract management on Thursday 2/11/2023 at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre and Monday 6/11/2023 at the Skala Theatre in Larnaca, after the first in a series of workshops for Limassol and Paphos on 30/6/2023.

The series of workshops is part of the actions to promote expertise and professionalism in the field of public procurement in order to achieve the best possible results in each procurement process while ensuring quality knowledge dissemination to all contracting authorities/entities.
Welcoming the participants in his address, the Accountant General of the Republic Mr. Andreas Antoniadis referred to the main and very important role that the General Accounting Office of the Republic has always played and continues to play in the field of public procurement and briefly outlined the plans promoted by the ongoing reform project, timing the actions according to their degree of maturity in immediate, medium and long-term implementation.
"Public procurement has a key role to play in creating jobs, growth conditions and attracting investment, and is an important tool towards creating a greener, more innovative, more resilient, more inclusive and more energy efficient economy," he said in his address.
The workshop covered a wide range of important topics in procurement and public procurement management. It began with a presentation of the developments in the field, as well as the reforms promoted by the GAO in the field of public procurement. Subsequently, the workshop dealt with aspects related to the handling of issues that create cross-cutting problems for all Services in the implementation of public procurement procedures and their management, as highlighted by the Competent Authority, the Tender Review Authority and the Audit Office of the Republic.
The second part of the workshop presented those aspects of the legislative framework of Changes and Requirements that create problems for contract administrators. The aim of the second part was to clarify issues of interpretation and approach to provisions where weaknesses have been observed over time, and reference was made to the challenges for the future and plans to take advantage of the opportunities offered by technology. The workshop concluded with the presentation of guidelines and best practices that individuals assuming the role of project engineer are required to implement, highlighting the criticality of the role for the successful completion of a project as evidenced by the experiences presented.
The GAO would like to thank the participants for their large participation and for the fact that through discussion, questions and exchange of views they contributed substantially to deepening the understanding of the various issues addressed during the workshop.
