In the context of the adoption of best practices, followed by the European Commission, EU Member States and other advanced states, of the national regulatory framework governing the fight against discrimination in the enjoyment of rights and freedoms, and the policies arising from the National Strategy for Gender Equality 2024-2026, the General Accounting Office of the Republic publishes its Social Balance Sheet for 2024. Our Service puts at the centre of its activities the processes of human resources management, which is our most important asset.

The staff of the General Accounting Office of the Republic consists of 352 persons, of which 88% (309 persons) are accounting staff, while the remaining 12% (43 persons) are other support staff. The majority of the accounting staff is made up of permanent employees (65%), while permanent and temporary employees make up 28% and 7% respectively. As regards the age distribution of the accounting staff, 1% are under 30 years old, 27% belong to the age category 31-40 years old, 45% belong to the age category 41-50 years old, 21% to the age category 51-60 years old and 6% are over 60 years old.

In order to offer upgraded professional financial support services, due to its cross-sectoral responsibility, the General Accounting Office of the Republic staffs the Financial Management Directorates of all Ministries and Deputy Ministries of the Government, in which 62% of its accounting staff is located, while the remaining 38% is located in the Central Offices.

It is noted that, in the context of the efforts made to reform the management of public resources in the Republic of Cyprus, and to staff the General Accounting Office of the Republic with appropriately qualified personnel, 33% of the accounting staff serve in the professional structure and hold the professional title of qualified accountant, while 27% serve in the scientific structure, which consists of university degree holders.

Finally, it is stated that the General Accounting Office is committed to consolidating gender culture and promoting the practical implementation of equality between men and women in the workplace. As a consequence of the above commitment is the fact that in all structures of the accounting staff of our Service (professional, scientific, technical) the majority is made up of women, while the female gender participates in 38% of senior management positions both in the Central Offices and in the Financial Management Directorates in the Ministries and Deputy Ministries.
