Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides departs today for Brussels, where he will participate in the extraordinary EU Foreign Affairs Council to be held tomorrow, Friday, 4 March 2022.
The Foreign Ministers will focus exclusively on developments in Ukraine following the recent EU decisions to impose restrictive measures against Russia and the further coordinated reaction of the Member States. The discussions are expected to focus, inter alia, on the immediate de-escalation effort and the protection of the civilian population, as well as on initiatives in support of Ukraine.
An informal exchange of views will take place in the framework of the Foreign Affairs Council with the participation of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, UK Foreign Minister Elizabeth Truss and Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly. The discussion under this section takes place in the context of the EU's coordination with its strategic partners. In addition, it is noted that the Foreign Minister of Ukraine Mr. Dmytro Kuleba will participate in the informal exchange of views via teleconference.
Mr. Kasoulides returns to Cyprus on Saturday, 5 March 2022.
