The Office of the Environment Commissioner is organising an information workshop on "Coastal developments and sustainable construction products", on Friday, 24 November 2023, at the Larnaca Municipality Multipurpose Social Welfare and Employment Centre.
The workshop is open to the public and aims to inform public and private bodies and citizens about the sustainable management of coastal areas, the reasons why it is necessary to respect and protect coastal areas and areas of particular natural beauty and what is provided for by European law. At the same time, the benefits of using sustainable construction products will be presented.
More specifically, the provisions of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Protocol, the Barcelona Convention, the management of the Protocol at European level and the implementation of its provisions in Cyprus in relation to the national legislative framework will be presented. The participants will also address the sustainable management of coastal areas and the land use planning required to ensure the balance, protection and improvement of the environment, in accordance with EU principles. Finally, sustainable construction products with digitised and sanitary data will be presented.
Speakers at the conference will be the Lawyer-Professor of the National Technical University of Athens Dimitrios Melissas, the Environmental Engineer and Executive Director of 2050 Materials Mr. Fanos Hadjikyriakou and Ms. Irini Konstantinou, Senior Environmental Officer at the Department of Environment. The Commissioner for Environment Dr. Maria Panayiotou and the Director General of the General Directorate of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Kostas Hadjipanagiotou will address the conference.
