The Director General of the Ministry of Finance, Mr George Pantelis, will represent the Minister of Finance at the Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday, 14-15 March 2022.
During the Eurogroup, the Ministers will discuss the economic situation and the coordination of fiscal policy in the euro area in view of the war in Ukraine, the Banking Union and the enhanced surveillance report on Greece.
Ministers will also discuss in Ecofin the economic and financial consequences of the sanctions imposed on Russia following its military attack on Ukraine, and will be informed of the decisions taken at the informal European Council in Versailles.
Ministers will also discuss the European Commission's proposal on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CCM). They will also hold an orientation debate on the proposal to transfer the global agreement reached at OECD level whereby large multinational companies will be subject to a minimum tax rate of 15% to EU law.
Finally, Ministers will be briefed by the European Commission on its budgetary guidelines for 2023, as well as on the progress of work on the review of the economic governance framework.
