- Meetings with senior executives of companies operating in the Cyprus EEZ

The 17th Executive Council Meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) was chaired today, 15 February 2022, by Mr. Marios Panagidis, Director General of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (MoETI). The meeting was held in Cairo and is the first since Cyprus assumed the chairmanship of the EMGF on 1 January. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the EMGF member states (Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Palestine and France), while the United States of America, the European Union and the World Bank participated as observers. Panagides in his introductory speech thanked and congratulated the working groups and the EMGF Secretariat for the results of their studies on the critical issues concerning the green energy transition and the optimal development of the region's energy resources. The Summit unanimously approved EMGF's work programme for the year 2022, which included Cyprus' proposals concerning the energy transition and which will be implemented in cooperation with the Gas Industry Advisory Committee, which participates in EMGF. The Summit also discussed the study of the second phase of EMGF's long-term strategy, as well as the staffing of the Agency.

Both the Director General of the EMGF, Mr Panagides, and the Director of the Hydrocarbons Agency, Dr Nicolaides, who accompanied him, held meetings with representatives of companies operating in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus with whom they discussed developments in their energy programme. In particular, Mr Panagides and Mr Nicolaides met, on the sidelines of the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS), with Mr De la Rey Venter, Vice President of Shell, Mr Chris Steele, General Manager for Developing Countries of Chevron, Mr Romain De La Martinière, General Manager of Total Energies EP Cyprus B.V. and Mr Michael Allain, Director of Natural Gas Exploration of Total Energies EP Cyprus B.V.

The Cypriot delegation also visited the Cypriot stand at EGYPS 2022, which includes companies and organisations active in the natural gas sector, such as the Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company, Invest Cyprus, Multimarine, Atlas Offshore, Hill International and the CMMI Centre of Excellence.

Mr Panagidis will return to Cyprus tomorrow 16 February 2022.
