The Ministry of Social Welfare is proceeding with a nationwide expansion of the "Neighbourhood Social Worker" programme.
The programme, which is part of the Project "Restructuring of Social Welfare Services", which is being implemented under the Cohesion Policy Programme "THALIA 2021-2027" co-financed by the European Union, will be implemented by the Ministry of Social Welfare from April 2023, on a pilot basis, in eight Municipalities and Communities of Mountainous Areas, with very satisfactory results, which were presented today by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Mrs. Marilena Evangelou in a meeting with the President of the Union of Municipalities Mr. In her statements the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare said that the programme of the "Neighbourhood Social Worker" has been embraced by the citizens and the objective for which it was created seems to have been achieved.

The aim of the programme, Ms Evangellou said, is to be direct in responding to the needs of citizens so that we can get closer to the needs and challenges people face and respond better and more directly to them.
Through this programme, according to Ms Evangelou, it has been demonstrated and proven in practice that synergies, especially with Local Government and the State, especially in terms of social services, are very important and crucial, because Local Government is the institution closest to the citizens. Finally, she stated that she is sure that there will be a response from other Municipalities and Communities as well.
