The strengthening of cooperation aimed at promoting the cultural and historical heritage of the country was discussed by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, with the Director General, Dr. Christos Koukliotis and other representatives of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister praised the role played by the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation in the cultural events of the country, in the context of its more than 40 years of operation. She noted that the operation of its departments (Library, Byzantine Museum, Gallery, Archive) covers important areas of the cultural, religious and historical heritage of the country.
Dr. Kassianidou and Dr. Koukliotis discussed prospects for developing synergies between the Foundation and the Deputy Ministry.
Among other things, the issue of the continuation and strengthening of cooperation in supporting the Library of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation was raised.
Dr Koukliotis then referred to the Byzantine Museum, which presents the richest and most representative collection of Byzantine art, originating from all over Cyprus. The Director General asked for the support of the Deputy Ministry once it is ready to open its doors to the public, following the completion of the renovation works currently underway. The Deputy Minister of Culture was affirmative, noting that the renovated and state-of-the-art museum will be a jewel for Nicosia and all of Cyprus.
Dr Koukliotis also informed the Deputy Minister of the Foundation's intention to organise an event on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion, on the repatriation of cultural treasures, discussing prospects for cooperation.
Finally, the mutual will to further promote the culture and history of Cyprus and to promote its rich heritage was expressed.
