The opening ceremony of the Cypriot Theatre Week took place last night in Athens at the National Theatre, which is co-organized for the first time this year by the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Cyprus Centre of the International Theatre Institute with the support of the House of Cyprus in Athens and the cooperation of the National Theatre of Greece.
Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou attended the event to declare the start of the Week. In her address, she underlined the importance that the Deputy Ministry of Culture attaches to the realization and encouragement of such synergy actions, which realize the vision of the Deputy Ministry of Culture for extroversion and promotion of contemporary Cypriot creation abroad.
The Cyprus Theatre Week opened its curtain in the "Nikos Kourkoulos" Hall of the historic Chiller Building of the National Theatre. The opening was marked by HAMM Productions' production of "Before the German Comes" by Marta Barceló, directed by Kostas Silvestros, starring Popi Avraam and Andreas Koutsofta.
The tickets for the performance were sold out and the cast received prolonged and warm applause from the Athenian audience at the end of the performance.
