On Saturday 16 December 2023, 10:00-12:00, the Department of Modern and Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture invites the public to this year's Christmas activities of the State Gallery - Majestic, which will take the form of four parallel creative workshops/stations.
In a festive atmosphere, young and old will have the opportunity to share personal stories, explore and experiment with a variety of artistic materials and techniques, creating original prints, wrapping their own unique gifts and making new and different costumes for Santa Claus! At the same time, they will have the opportunity to participate in an interactive creative movement workshop accompanied by live Christmas music.
Young and old alike can participate in one or more stations of their choice. The limited number of participants is 35 and there will be a first-come, first-served basis. Participation is free of charge.
Those interested can pre-book their places in advance at the link: https:/forms.gle/7Cjyxe16kKaqq6LL8
● Station 1 - "My favorite Christmas...!"
My favorite Christmas... was by the Christmas tree playing "Santa Claus King" by the fireplace. How about you? When was your favorite Christmas? Do you remember telling me your story? Together with the children we will recount our own personal experiences and then transfer these "memory pictures" onto paper using various monotype techniques.
Design and implementation: Panagiotis Andreou (artist)
The workshop is addressed to children 7-12 years old and will be implemented in three 30-minute iterations (10:00-10:30, 10:40-11:10, 11:20-11:50)
Maximum number of children per iteration: 7.
● Station 2 - Creative movement workshop for children accompanied by live festive music
The idea of the workshop is based on a Christmas decoration custom. More specifically, a garland is to be created and then a Christmas wreath, but instead of ornaments, it will consist of abstract body shapes representing emotions that will change
Design and implementation: Maria Kamperi (dance teacher, choreographer)
The workshop will be accompanied by live festive flute music.
The workshop is addressed to children 6-10 years old and will be implemented in three 30-minute iterations (10:00-10:30, 10:40-11:10, 11:20-11:50).
Maximum number of children per iteration: 10.
● 3rd Station - Christmas gift exchange workshop!
Old toys and small objects that are no longer used and each one brings with it its own story are transformed into colourful wrapped shapes and forms, into unique gifts to be exchanged between the workshop participants. Through experimentation with a variety of wrapping papers, coloured ribbons, strings and different textures of fabrics, young and old will have the opportunity to engage in processes of preparing/wrapping their own gifts, creating a kind of non-verbal communication, tactile exploration and playful interaction with the other participants: Elena Panagiotou (museum educator)
The workshop is addressed to families with children 4-10 years old and participation can take place throughout the implementation of the Christmas activity. A prerequisite for participation is that young and old have with them an old small toy or small object that they would like to exchange with another person.
● Station 4 - "A different costume for Santa Claus!"
Oops, Santa's official costume has shrunk after being washed in the washing machine and the evening of gift delivery is approaching! What do you say we help him out? As part of the workshop, children are invited to be inspired by selected works from the State Gallery's permanent exhibition and transfer lines, shapes, patterns and colours they observe to contours of their own bodies created on a large roll of paper. Through their testing and experimentation with printed copies of the works, design and other materials such as wool, fabrics, etc. and playing the role of tailors, they will create new and different costumes for Santa Claus to help him deliver the presents on time!
The workshop is based on the fairy tale "Santa's laundry" by Ioanna Kiritsis-Tziotis.
Design and implementation: Elena Houloudi and Christa Sotiriou (teachers)
The workshop is addressed to children 5-12 years old and participation can take place throughout the implementation of the Christmas activity
Christmas treats will be offered to all participants.
