The Cypriot winners of the "SkillsCyprus 2023" competition will compete with their European counterparts at the 8th European Skills Competition "Euroskills 2023", which will be held in Gdansk, Poland, from 6 to 8 September 2023.
The Cyprus National Skills Team will be accompanied by the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Mr. Yannis Panayiotou, the Deputy Director of the Productivity Centre Ms. Maria Nicolaou and the team of experts/professionals of the sectors in which they will participate.
The aim of Cyprus' participation is to highlight the high level of human resources development in the country and to claim promotion to the European Skills Competition "Euroskills 2023".
The National Team of Cyprus consists of 6 young people aged 16-23 who competed and won first place in respective individual vocational competitions during the 7th National Skills Competition "SkillsCyprus 2023", held in Nicosia last March, under the responsibility of the Productivity Centre.
In the "Euroskills 2023" Competition, the Cyprus National Team will compete in the following technical professions with the following young people. [*]Welding, with Loizos Kyriakou, recent graduate of the 1st Technical School of Nicosia, [*]Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician, with MIEEK student Konstantinos Venizelos, [*]Welding, with Loizos Kyriakou, recent graduate of the 1st Technical School of Nicosia, [*]Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician, with MIEEK student Konstantinos Venizelou, [*]Cook, with Four Seasons Hotel chef Andreas Sotiriou, [*]Waiter, with TEPAK student Georgios Christodoulou and [*]Aesthetician, with Intercollege student Elina Adamou. The aim of the young people of the Cyprus National Team, who will be facing 500 young people from 30 European countries, is to have a dynamic presence in the competition, to give their best and to reach as high as possible in the ranking, even to occupy one of the first places.
The "Euroskills 2023" Skills Competition, which has the slogan "United by Skills", will for the first time be broadcast live in live streaming from the Euroskills Gdansk 2023 Facebook page.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance has been a member of the European Skills Promotion Agency Worldskills Europe (WSE) since 2008 and is represented in it by the Productivity Centre. The main activity of the WSE is the biennial organisation of the Euroskills European Skills Competition, which is a unique opportunity to demonstrate quality, manufacturing excellence and craftsmanship in Europe. The competition focuses on the trades and skills that are considered essential to maintain Europe's competitiveness and aims to attract more young people into technical professions.
The Euroskills competition is open to young people up to 25 years old from WSE member countries in Europe who have acquired or are in the process of acquiring vocational skills. Participation in the competition is judged and decided through national skills competitions organised by each member country. The first Euroskills competition took place in September 2008 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
