The Honourable Members. Andreas Pasiourtides (leader), Rita Theodorou Superman, Christos Orphanides and Charalambos Theopeptou, members of the Cypriot delegation to the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (MPA), are travelling to Braga, Portugal, to participate in the 18th Annual General Assembly of the MPA, which will take place on 15 and 16 May 2024. The General Assembly will be hosted by the Parliament of Portugal.

In the context of the work of the General Assembly, Ms Superman, as Special Rapporteur of the CBM on Terrorism and Organised Crime, will present her Report on "Terrorism and Criminal Threats affecting the CBM region", followed by a Resolution for adoption by the Plenary.

The 18th General Assembly will also address current developments and security challenges in the Mediterranean region, in particular the Middle East conflict and its implications for the region and beyond. The challenges posed by the increasing use of artificial intelligence in terms of human rights protection, as well as environmental issues, will also be discussed. Relevant Resolutions will also be put to the Plenary of the Assembly for adoption.

In addition, prior to the opening of the General Assembly, Ms. Superman will participate in a visit of the CSM Women's Parliamentary Forum to Matosinhos, where the women members of the Forum will have contacts with Women's Support and Empowerment Organizations.
