The Council of Ministers approved today, Wednesday, 26 June 2024, a proposal by the Deputy Ministry of Culture for the signing of an Agreement with the Cyprus Publishers Association for its support in relation to its participation in International Book Exhibitions during the three-year period 2024-2026.
Specifically, the Agreement concerns the provision of financial support by the Ministry of State to the Association for the organised presence of the Association and its member publishing organisations at the International Book Fairs held annually in Bologna, Thessaloniki and Frankfurt.
The strengthening of the sustainability and healthy development of Cypriot industries operating in the cultural sector (including publishing companies), in such a way that they are able to contribute to the further deepening and diversification of Cypriot industrial production in general, is one of the strategic goals and objectives of the Deputy Ministry of Culture.
Supporting the presence of Cypriot publishers at International Book Exhibitions abroad opens up promising prospects, both in terms of opportunities for the penetration of Cypriot book production products in foreign book markets (copyright sales), and in terms of opportunities for cooperation and networking between Cypriot publishing companies and their foreign counterparts and the conclusion of agreements on issues of mutual interest.
It should be noted that in this context the Deputy Ministry of Culture has already proceeded with the financing of the Cyprus Pavilion and the participation of the Association in the Frankfurt International Book Fair, which took place last October.
