[PIO] The Council of Ministers approved the allocation of state land for the establishment and operation of universities

A decision, according to which state land can be granted for the purpose of establishing and operating academic institutions, was taken at yesterday's meeting of the Council of Ministers. In view of the prospect that the education sector has gained in recent years, the Government has taken the decision to proceed with measures to support the higher education sector. In this context, recognizing that education is a growing pillar for attracting business and investment and, by extension, contributes to the local economy, in consultation with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Interior has proceeded to amend the relevant Regulations, with the aim of utilizing state land for educational purposes. The allocation of state land for the establishment, expansion and operation of Universities multiplies the options and creates more opportunities for Cypriot and foreign students, upgrading Cyprus' position on the map of education.

The amending Regulations will be tabled in the House of Representatives for debate and vote.
