The event was held in the Event Hall of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, where prizes were awarded to the students who excelled in the national children's literature reading competition "Book Races 2023".

The event was held in the Hall of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth. The program included a short tribute to the International Children's Book Day, a greeting by the Director of Primary Education Dr. Marios Stylianides and an artistic program by students of the 5th grade of Mammara Primary School. Afterwards, prizes were awarded to the distinguished students. The prizes were awarded by the Director of Primary Education.

The "Book Races 2023" competition on the theme "Environmental Disaster" was attended by students from the 4th, 5th and 6th grades of the Primary School. Through the thematic section of the competition, the children had the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding that the natural environment is the source of our life and our common home and therefore we have to protect it.

In his address, the Director of Primary Education pointed out that both the targeted teaching of literary texts in the classroom, as well as the cultivation of literacy in general, are important pillars for the implementation of the long-standing goal of education, which is the improvement of learning outcomes. He stressed that a child's familiarity with the written word (in print or digital form) leads to the development of literacy: textual, pictorial and cultural.

Finally, Dr. Stylianides congratulated all the children for their participation, enthusiasm and conscious choice to devote part of their free time to reading literary books and wished them to continue their involvement with literature. The following pupils were distinguished:

Andreas Gavriel, Primary School of Drosia (KB) - Michalakis Paridis
